Pam Ann—Around The World

The obscenely entertaining Pam Ann lands in Toronto just in time for Pride week

Presented by Cidcom Productions
Created and performed by Caroline Reid

Look! In the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s the foul-mouthed celebrity air hostess Pam Ann, b***hes!

Now on stage for a limited run at the Panasonic Theatre, Pam Ann (the hilarious alter ego of Australian comedian Caroline Reid, who once toured with Cher and performed in-flight entertainment for the 40th birthday of Elton John’s partner David Furnish) is back in Toronto this weekend with her latest one-woman show Pam Ann—Around The World. The champagne swilling, Pucci-clad air hostess has played sold-out shows across Europe and has a cult-like following (even Madonna is a fan) who worship her unique brand of campy, off-colour humour.

Pam Ann–Around The World opens with clips from the television series Pan Am. An outrageously edited video features the comedian interacting with the show’s crew in typical Pam Ann fashion: she’s bitchy, lewd and oh-so-fun. The audience is divided into sections for the duration of the performance (economy, business and first class, of course), while Pam mocks Canadian airlines such as Air Canada, West Jet and Porter (“I had a back-to-back Thunder Bay,” she jeers), much to the amusement of the various employees in the theatre.

And the airlines are not the only victims of Pam Ann’s viciously funny attacks: she also touches on current events, such as Toronto’s so-called “heat wave” (we’re a bunch of whiners according to this Aussie), Canada’s gruesome “body parts” case and our lax immigration policy. In her mind, Canadians are far “too nice,” but she loves us anyway. And despite her catty, politically incorrect persona, the feeling is mutual.

Pam Ann puts the fun back in flying, but be warned: this trip is not for the faint of heart.  There's no limit to how far she'll go for a laugh (and people in the front row are fair game!).

Pam Ann—Around The World runs until June 23 at the Panasonic Theatre. Visit Mirvish.com for more information and to buy tickets.
